Academic Advising

School Readiness Assessment & Consultation

Grades: Pre-K, K, 1

This consultation provides parents with an accurate picture of their child's academic skills and learning behavior. During the consultation, we provide parents with specific areas for concentration and the tools to improve academic skills and learning behaviors that will be valuable to student’s to learn or be introduced to before starting school.

School Enrollment Consultation

Grades: Pre-K to 12

Parents often come to us with questions regarding their children's schooling. Common questions include:

  • Which school?
  • Public school or Private?
  • Traditional or home-schooling?
  • Is the school my child is currently attending meeting his/her needs?
  • Which college/university is the best match?

This consultation guides parents through the decision making process by taking into account:

  • Your and your child’s goals
  • Your child's academic aptitude
  • Your child’s learning behavior and needs

We will provide you with information drawn from our research and experience and guide you through making the best decision for you and your child. Our goal is to give you peace of mind when faced with difficult educational choices.

When necessary, we customize this consultation for students whose school or form of schooling is transitioning. Examples include, but are not limited to the following situations:

Changing schools or Transitioning from:

  • Elementary to middle school
  • Middle school to high school
  • Traditional schooling to home schooling
  • Home schooling to traditional schooling
  • Public school to private school
  • New arrivals from different states

Whatever the situation, we provide you and your child the information and tools to help you make the best decisions for success.

 

Home Schooling Consultation & Curriculum Development

The decision to home-school your child should not be taken lightly. We provide a variety of services to assist you in giving the highest level of personal attention to your child's education. We provide assistance in:

  • Choosing a home-school program
  • Developing, Planning & implementing a home-school curriculum
  • Supplementing home-school curriculum with additional materials
  • Temporary home-school or prolonged absences from traditional school

We have expertise in working with professional performers and athletes with unique academic challenges. Whatever the academic situation, we ensure our students excel academically while pursuing their professional goals.

We offer:

  • Help obtaining a permit to work

 

High School Academic Planning

For many students high school is a time to start planning for the future and making serious decisions. We help plan a path through high school toward the accomplishment of any academic goals. Students are generally more motivated to excel academically when they set goals and have a plan for attaining them.

We provide these services for students in junior and senior high school:

Parental Consultations

Many parents want to help their children on their own, but feel they lack the experience and knowledge to be effective.

We offer consultations in:

  • The education system
  • Grading systems
  • Communicating with teachers

 

Parent Training

We provide intensive training for parents interested in tutoring their own children.

We train parents in:

  • Tutoring technique
  • Supplemental curriculum planning and implementation.
  • Acquiring supplemental materials

 

IEP Meetings

Most parents are nervous about IEP meetings even when they have attended them in the past.
The Director of Education:

  • Attends IEP meetings with parents
  • Manages group dynamics and ensures that all parties work together toward setting the most optimal learning goals for your child
  • Clarifies what is discussed in the IEP meeting
  • Provides a different perspective
  • Helps you make placement decisions (You don’t always just have to agree with what the school proposes. You too know what’s best for your child, so you should have an informed voice in the IEP meetings.)

 

Gifted Students (GATE Placement)

This consultation answers the following questions and more:

  • My child is gifted, now what?
  • Are there any programs outside of school to help foster this attribute?
  • Are there early scholarships for gifted children?
  • What can I ask of the school if they do not have a program for gifted students?
  • Is my child reaching his/her full potential in the program they’re currently in?

 

College Admissions Consultations

  • How to maximize your chances of being accepted to your first choice.
  • We help with the entire application process or the part(s) you need help with, including your personal statement.

 

College Academic Planning

This consultation guides students in:

  • Choosing the right college/major
  • Setting short-term and long-term goals to ensure success
  • Choosing classes wisely so as to not waste time and money
