At Axia Learning we engage students' interest in academics
through empowering their learning abilities & skills, so they can excel
academically. Engage Interest
When
students’ interests are engaged they are more likely to put in a greater
effort into learning tasks than when they are not interested (i.e. doing class
work & homework, studying, etc.). For
example: When
a student’s interest lies in playing video games, s/he will put in the maximum
amount of time and effort to learn and master the game. At Axia Learning, our first step is to uncover and understand if and why a child has lost interest in academics. We make learning tasks relevant to the student’s interests, capabilities, and academic goals and we strive to find ways to make academics relevant for your child through goal setting and planning.
During
our assessment, we come to understand students’ learning strengths and
weaknesses both academically as well as behaviorally. This is achieved through analyzing their learning style and
skills set. This information is then incorporated into a curriculum, which is
implemented with the goal of empowering each student in his or her learning
ability. In addition, we help your child strengthen their weaknesses in learning
in order to become a better overall learner. For
example:
When children understand the relevance of academics, their innate learning ability is empowered, and their self-efficacy beliefs are positively affected, they become better learners. We
believe performance always follows effort.
Because of this, we focus more on the amount and quality of the effort a
student puts into learning tasks, rather than how they perform on those tasks.
We ensure students understand their strengths and learn to use them to optimize
their learning and that they understand their weaknesses and acquire the tools
to strengthen or overcome them. When
a student’s interest is engaged and s/he feels empowered to learn and put
forth the effort required, s/he will excel academically.
